During this 6 days and 5 nights trip we will travel to some of the best trails in Central Mexico, making stops in Monterrey, Ciudad Victoria and Miquihuana. As we travel we will have a running adventure each day visiting iconic places like Chipinque and Canon de Novilla.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Eric Palafox of Palafox Trail Series to bring you this adventure. Eric race directs trail races all over central Mexico. His intimate knowledge is part of making this an epic adventure.
Safety
Client and crew safety is the most important priority for any Top Out Adventures trip. We will take every precaution possible to mitigate risks and be prepared in the case of an emergency situation on the adventure.
Mitigation Precautions:
A trained first responder will be on the crew
All clients will be given a route briefing the day before and a printed map with contact numbers
Crew members will be carrying GPS spot trackers with SOS buttons
Crew members will be carrying 2-way radios
Homebase crew will be tracking progress of the crew GPS trackers and will be able to contact Search and Rescue if needed
Travel Safety
Anytime you travel in another country it is important to know the lay of the land. With crew members who have lived in Mexico and speak the language along with local guides, we will be making the best possible decisions to be safe. Decisions on when and where we travel is similar to any place in the world. We will be tracking information from the authorities and using local intel. Mexico is a wonderfully open and kind culture. Our goal is to avoid the dangerous exceptions.
Food:
We will carry food for snacks and light lunches while traveling. There will be opportunities to buy local food and eat out. Breakfast and dinner and snacks will be provided by the trip cost. If you have special food you want to carry on runs, you will need to bring it with you.
Covid-19 Considerations:
Travel risks have taken on a new dimension with Covid-19 and everyone should manage to their own comfort level. We will follow CDC and local requirements for wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. For the most part we will be among our own group and outdoors.
How to Get There:
You have 2 options for transportation to Mexico:
You can ride from Dallas or Austin, TX in the Top Out Adventures van. This will add an extra night to your trip at the beginning and end with associated lodging costs. Choose the Van Transportation option at check out.
You can book your own flight into and out of Monterrey, Mexico. We will pick you up at the airport and take care of all of the transportation from there. We will send you more details with contact information and arrival and departure time windows after registration. Choose Flight Transportation at check out.
Accommodations:
We will be staying in hotels in Monterrey and Ciudad Victoria. In Miquihuana we will stay at the beautiful and eclectic Sol y Luna resort.
Route Support:
There will not be any aid stations or support on the trails. You will be self supported. Runs will range from 4 - 7 hours daily.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive into Monterrey and enjoy a dinner of the best tacos in Mexico at El Papalotes.
Day 2: Early start to go into Parque Chipinque to climb La M. This route has awesome vertical climbs with via ferrata and end with majestic views of Monterrey. After showers back at the hotel, we will go out for a traditional northern Mexico dinner that will feature all kinds of delicious meats.
Day 3: Another early start to go to Parque Huasteca and climb Horcones. This route features hands on knees climbs topped by class 3 climbing up to a gorgeous ridge line. Bring your camera! Back to Monterrey for another awesome dinner.
Day 4: We will go out to the town of Santa Catarina and take on Pico Perico. This route starts from behind a local subdivision and quickly disappears up the mountain. We will go through abandoned quartz mines and climb steep via ferrata routes. The pay off in views at the top is totally worth it. From the summit we can see the two previous days summits in the distance. We will then hustle back down to the van because we have a drive to Miquihuana where we will be staying for the night.
Day 5: After a beautiful nights rest and the beautiful boutique Sol y Luna resort, we will head just a short out town to run the trails on the land of Se·ñor Horacio. We will carry food for a brunch prepared by Horacio over an open fire at this home. Then it is back to Miquihuana for tacos and relaxation at Sol y Luna.
Day 6: We will head out from the resort at sunrise to run through town as it wakes for the day. The trail will take us up the mountains just outside of town past ranches, century old water systems, wild flowers all to finish in a beautiful valley called La Joya.
Day 7: With abrazos (hugs) from our new friends we will load up in the van early for the drive back to Monterrey to catch flights. For those riding back in the van, settle in for the ride to Austin or Dallas.
After sign-up we will be sending a lot more information, holding zoom calls and other communications. But please contact us at Info@TopOutAdventures.com if you want to ask any questions now.
